August 14, 2009

Veterans have earned the right for a free world-class education including flight training

The Arizona campus of Embry- Riddle Aeronautical University is proud to continue their support for higher education opportunities for returning veterans. They are very excited about the new opportunity for eligible veterans seeking a career in security and intelligence to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in their highly acclaimed Global Security & Intelligence Studies program for no cost.

The Bachelor of Science degree in Global Security and Intelligence Studies (GSIS) is designed to develop future security and intelligence professionals with a broad understanding of global interrelationships in politics, economics, social change, science and technology, military developments, the psychological dimensions of military and terrorist threats, cyber-security, and human cultures. Careers include working in federal government security and intelligence agencies, security and intelligence departments in business and industry and state and local law enforcement agencies. The Post- 9/11 GI Bill's "Yellow Ribbon Program" was updated to reflect an increase in education benefits for returning veterans who meet the qualifications of the Veteran's Educational Assistance Act of 2008 under a new provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill, tuition benefits for returning service men and women may now cover the entire tuition cost of an Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University 4-year Bachelor of Science degree in Global Security & Intelligence Studies and any of their other prestigious degree programs.

"It's an unprecedented opportunity for veterans to get the world-class education they deserve," said Dan Carrell, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Embry-Riddle's Prescott campus. "Combined with our other leading degree programs, veterans have a full slate of choices for future careers - commercial piloting, engineering, global security, and meteorology, to name a few."

Under the current provisions, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs pays a portion of the tuition cost for a private university, equal to the highest in-state tuition charged at a public institution in Arizona. Embry-Riddle covers the other half of tuition. Veterans must have served at least three years to qualify for 100% of the educational benefits. In addition to the tuition and fee, veterans are entitled to a monthly housing allowance, a $1000 stipend for books and supplies, and an additional $500 payment for moving costs. Eligible veterans may also have the opportunity to transfer this exceptional opportunity to an individual family member.

Prescott's mild climate and exemplary flying conditions make for ideal year-round training opportunities. Located in close proximity to the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and two hours from Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix, Prescott offers the security of a small, family-oriented community with close proximity to the amenities of a big city.

Eligible individuals are encouraged to visit the Department of Veterans Affairs Web site at http://gibill.va.gov/GI_Bill_Info/benefits.htm#CH33 to obtain in-depth information about the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
